On the enchanting evening of December 5th, the South Windsor Chamber of Commerce hosted a Holiday Gala that set the stage for a night of celebration, recognition, and joy at the Lodge at Maneeley’s. The event was a resounding success, thanks to the vibrant presence of all who attended, adding their festive spirit to the occasion.

The festivities kicked off with a delectable cocktail-style dinner, setting the tone for an evening of camaraderie and connection. Attendees were treated to a delightful blend of activities that included not only the anticipated business awards but also an engaging auction, networking opportunities, dancing, and plenty of mingling. The air was filled with excitement as the community came together to celebrate the holiday season in style.

We are delighted to announce the official kickoff of Small Business Season 2023 on November 1st. This year our campaign to support our neighborhood small businesses will be even bigger than before!

It hasn’t been an easy year for any of us. With rising costs, fears of inflation, hiring challenges, and so much more, our local businesses need assistance and what better time to support their dreams than at the holidays?

As part of Small Business Season, we’re encouraging shoppers to support small businesses including retail, dining, entertainment, as well as other goods and services including artisans, authors, makers, service providers, and more.

When it comes to buying local, we want you to remember the benefits of shopping small are KIND.

K nowledge – local businesses are often staffed by owners or people who have a solid knowledge of their products and services. They will take the time to help you figure out what you want and need as well as answer questions.

Gladys Ortiz, the driving force behind the event, led the committee with dedication and passion. A 25+ year veteran of the food hospitality industry.  I started to work in the industry immediately after turning 16 years old.  After graduating with a degree in Economics from UCONN I continued to pursue restaurant management.  I worked for a very prominent family-owned restaurant in Vernon for many year.  in 2009 my wife and I purchased a pizza restaurant in Guilford and operated it for four years.  After having 3 children we decided to move on from business ownership.  I connected with a good friend in South Windsor and did catering and banquets for many years.  I was approached with an offer to help start a new up and coming restaurant concept owned by Burtons Grill and Bar.  I accepted the offer to bring Red Heat American Tavern to South Windsor in February of 2018.  It is a very exciting time for us as the business is rapidly growing both in the location itself and throughout the east coast.

Kim Lachapelle is certified as a professional coach; credentialed through the International Coach Federation with over 3000 hours of professional coaching experience. She has over 30 years of management, leadership, business, and people development experience ranging from owning her current THE MAX Challenge of South Windsor fitness/nutrition studio, to leading a retail team of 750 managers and associates achieving over $100 million in sales. Kim also holds the position of Area Development Rep CT/MA for THE MAX Challenge Franchise.

Kim holds a Master of Management degree from Cambridge College, a professional coaching certification from the highly-regarded Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC) and a specialized Progressive Recovery Coach Certification. She is a bestselling co-author as well as a meditation recording artist.

Kim facilitates a variety of workshops focused around improving communication skills, knowing how and when to delegate to develop others, time management, improving on-the-job performance, in addition to vison board workshops, mindfulness & stress reduction strategies.

Giving back to the community is very important to Kim. In addition to hosting numerous community events for charity, she also serves as a volunteer coach for Stand Beside Them, an organization whose mission is to provide coaching services to our returning service members and their families/caregivers who may be encountering obstacles here on the home front. Kim received the Community Action Award from the South Windsor Chamber of Commerce in 2022.
